Beautiful song. Remember that as far as the teachings of the Book of Mormon, the blessed land that would “never have kings,” is not only the U.S., it is the AMERICAS-in other words, North-Central and South America. After all- where did Father Lehi land and establish the Land Bountiful??
When the pioneers got to the Salt Lake Valley it was part of Mexico- it was the following year in 1847 that the U.S./Mexico War occurred.
As a convert, I am always saddened to find that long time members know so very little of the history Mexico has played in the Church, including when Utah became a state and many polygamous families fled the U.S. and established their homes in the Mormon Colonies in Chihuahua. America is ONE: from the northernmost areas of Canada to Tierra del Fuego and although the U.S. was the land chosen to restore the Gospel in, AMERICA has been blessed in the preaching of the Gospel.
